AAPB Human Library of Luminaries

So Many Luminaries Among Us!

It's time for AAPB to shine a spotlight on them and ensure the world is better acquainted with them. The AAPB Human Library showcases those individuals who have contributed to the science and practice of applied psychophysiology and biofeedback, those who have made significant contributions to the advancement of brain/body/mental health or to AAPB itself.

Each entry in our online "AAPB Human Library" will offer a profile of an individual member's impact, contributions, advice and visioning for the future. Those selected have completed a brief questionnaire. This information is developed into an infographic that will be shared widely and available for the honoree to use as they wish.

Each entry in the AAPB Human Library will be categorized in one of the following four areas:

(by official award only)

The AAPB Distinguished Scientist Award is presented annually, in recognition of an outstanding career and scientific contributions to the field of applied psychophysiology and biofeedback. This award recognizes a scientist who has advanced biofeedback through a significant body of research conducted, as judged by publications, awards and peer review, and has made a major impact upon the field of study, both nationally and/or internationally. Nominees must hold a doctoral degree in a psychology, biomedical science, medicine or other health-related field. Recipients are selected based on the following evaluation criteria 1) Scientific importance of research discoveries; 2) Mentorship of students, postdoctoral fellows, and new faculty; 3) Continued impact on the field.

Women have been historically underrepresented in science, technology, engineering, and mathematic (STEM) fields. This section of  the AAPB Human Library is dedicated to our "barrier breakers." Our intention is to celebrate and honor the empowering stories of those women who have paved the way for future generations. AAPB honors all women’s accomplishments in scientific progress, science leadership, science policy, science communication, and student mentorship.

Gone but not forgotten. We owe so much to the great minds of these noteworthy scientists who have passed, leaving behind a legacy of research and clinical excellence.

Entries in this category honor those for using evidence to innovate and achieve improvements for the modality of biofeedback. Research and innovation are powerful tools for advancing the science of applied psychophysiology and biofeedback and improving the quality of patient/client care. AAPB is an environment that embraces a robust spirit of inquiry and creativity as we build and apply science for healing and optimal performance. Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) is a problem-solving strategy that enables clinicians to improve healthcare quality and safety by integrating scientific evidence with clinical expertise and patient values.
